History of Khanapur
Khanapur Taluka is located towards the Western part of Belgaum District. It is located
at about 26 Km away from district Head Quarter. The total geographical area of the
taluka is 1726.11 Sq Kms. The taluka is bounded by Maharashtra state, Goa state
and also by Dharwad and North Kannada district Borders. The average rainfall in
this taluka is about 1,600 mm. Three rivers viz. Malaprabha, Mahadayi and Pandari
run in this taluka and main tributary of Ghataprabha is Markandeya river rises near
Bailur village. There are 218 revenue villages and 85 hamlets. The total population
is 243200 souls as per 2001 Census.
